Twitter passes 10 Billion Tweets sent
- 05 Mar 10
Twitter_512x512.png" width="48" height="48" />That little Social Network Twitter just passed a big milestone, over 10 Billion messages (Tweets) have been sent so far. Now I'm sure Facebook does that a month but for Twitter a relatively new network this is really good news.
Sadly it appears that the 10 billionth tweet was by a protected user so it can't be importalised for all time and looked back on by future generations as the defining words of a generation.
Maybe not....
Twitter becomes "places" Aware
- 03 Mar 10
Twitter have announced that they will soon be adding "Places" to their location Api, if your not aware "Places" is the way Foursquare and other location check in services work. Instead of just asking the GPS in your device to tell it the longitude and latitude of your position "Places" allows you to say your at a Shop or Park instead of just a string of digits that mean little.
This will also improve location security as well you could set Home as just the street you live on rather than the exact location of your house, likewise when trying to arrange a meet up a place is a much easier target than a set of coordinate on a map.
This is good news for Twitter users and better location data and improved security will make it a more widely used aspect of Twitter on the move.

"Twitter's location feature known as GEO Location, is OFF by default and we would suggest you keep it that way!"
